JOHANNESBURG – DailyAfrika has learned that the employee of the controversial businessman Sam Mshengu has been gunned down on Thursday.

Although the name of the victim’s identity is not yet made public, Mshengu’s staffer is known to be a manager of Sam Holdings, and has reportedly been shot twice in the chest and once in the head.

The developments come after the flamboyant businessman, also known as Sam Chabalala, is currently in hospital in Emalahleni as he recovers from a stomach related infection.

Mshengu is in hospital under police watch after he was arrested for charges relating to false citizenship and an attempt to bribe the Hawks with an amount of R40 0000.

According to The Citizen, the publication reports its reliable sources in the Mpumalanga town of Bethal have confirmed that a manager at the trucking company Sam Holdings has been killed in what may be a hit, with two shots confirmed to his chest, and one to his head.

The attack took place around 6:00 on Thursday evening and speculation is that the employee had evidence relating to the charges which Mshengu is currently facing.

Social media was abuzz, with some suggesting that Mshengu’s manager was murdered in a hail of bullets, whilst many users speculating on what the possible reasons might be.

On the other hand, the SowetanLive reported that Chabalala was not allowed to see family and friends owing to allegations that a laptop and cellphones were smuggled into his hospital ward where he was expected to finally appear to apply for bail in the Witbank Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Meanwhile, The Hawks revealed in a statement on Monday that Chabalala was arrested on charges of alleged bribery, corruption, possession of an unlicensed firearm and fraud in terms of contravening the Immigration Act.

Resulting from the charges levelled against the man who made his name during the Durban July where he led a convoy of luxury cars to the annual horseracing event, his assets have since been frozen by the elite crime-fighting unit.
