JOHANNESBURG– The EFF head-honcho Julius Malema has claimed that President Cyril Ramaphosa was the real force behind Mmusi Maimane’s downfall, not Helen Zille.

The EFF leader has placed the pillory at President Cyril Ramaphosa’s feet Malema claims that the same individuals who funded Ramaphosa’s rise to the top-funded the DA.

While everyone suspects that Helen Zille is behind Mmusi Maimane‘s egress, Julius Malema has other ideas beyond other people’s imagination.

TimesLIVE reports that the EFF leader had addressed the media while visiting the Nasrec Expo on Monday:

“Look at what Cyril did to Maimane. All of you are saying Helen Zille, Helen Zille. It is not Helen Zille, it is Cyril.”

Daily Afrika reported that Maimane’s resignation as the leader of the Democratic Alliance had closely followed Zille’s appointment as federal council chairperson.

Malema insists that the influential individuals who had financed Ramaphosa’s rise to the presidency had funded the opposition party.

These ‘funders’, according to Malema, had wanted the DA to handle Ramaphosa with care but Maimane had defied them, resulting in the push for him to step down:

“The day Maimane wrote a letter [to the public protector] and the public protector found against Cyril, Helen came out saying that was the most stupid thing to write [to Mkhwebane], and Tony Leon also came out saying the same. That is where the problems for Maimane started. Why? By writing the letter and e-mails coming out showing names, he exposed the funders who are the real owners of the DA.” He told Times LIVE.

Malema claims that he had faced questions over why he didn’t join forces with the president and he is adamant that Maimane had faced the same pressures:

“They are being told, ‘work with this man (Ramaphosa). This is our man’, and Mmusi defied them. He thought he had life of his own, and they showed him who are the real owners.”

Whether Malema has any evidence regarding a link between CR17 and DA funding is unclear at this point.

It was, however, reported in early October that DA insiders told Sunday World Maimane’s critics within the party had openly accused their leader of political short-sightedness in his Bosasa campaign against Ramaphosa.
