CAPE TOWN – After helping a stranger to fill up her petrol tank, petrol attendant Nkosikho Mbele’s act of humanity has seen him receive a reward he never budgeted for.
He is a 28-year-old father of two currently residing in the outskirts of Cape Town, Khayelitsha, and out of kindness, he helped a stranger after the driver reportedly forgot his bank card.
According to News24, Mbele paid for Monet Van Deventer’s petrol from his own pocket on Thursday when she stopped at his filling station on the N2 on her way to the Mother City, having noticed she had forgotten her bank card.
Mbele paid for Van Deventer’s petrol bill lending her R100, paying with his own bank card without taking the client’s details, but said she can pay it back whenever she passes by.
The petrol attendant’s kindness hit the Social Media by storm as the customer’s crowdfunding campaign has seen her raise almost R300 000 for him in return so far.
Following Van Deventer’s call to South Africans to help the Khayelitsha man donate and help him to raise his children, the funds are continuing to escalate.
“Ma’am you can’t run out of petrol on the N2. I’ll throw in R100 and then you can just bring back my R100 whenever you are near again,” said Van Deventer on Facebook.
In her personal message on the BackaBuddy fundraising platform, Van Deventer said she would love to do something for him in return since he “saved (her) life”.
“He trusted me [to return]. On my way back, I found him and returned his blessing. I asked him why he helped and trusted a stranger. He replied, ‘Ma’am I am a believer’,” continued Van Deventer.
“Thank you Nkosikho for giving me hope for South Africa. May Jesus bless you,” Van Deventer wrote.
Moreover, just before noon on Saturday, it is reported that the fund stood at R45 000 and by the same time on Sunday, it was at R294 000.
Speaking to News24, Mbele said he did not want Van Deventer to be at risk on the notorious highway after hearing many horror stories about the dangers on the N2.
“I know the N2 mos, I live there and know how dangerous it is. I was just doing what anyone else would have done, from the heart and God’s will. I believe there is no black and white, I wish to bring peace and to bring people together.
“I want to do what God would want me to do. He put me on this planet for a purpose,” concluded Mbele.
