He earned a transfer to Atlanta Chiefs in the United States, where he got the opportunity to line up against the legendary Brazilian striker, Pele.
However, Motaung is most famous for starting the Kaizer Chiefs football club in January 1970. The club indicated that Motaung actually turned down a lucrative $1 million contract to remain in the US and formed the mass supported giant that is AmaKhosi.
Motaung combined his first name with his former club Atlanta Chiefs to create the name Kaizer Chiefs.
He rejected the money in favour of starting his own football club – a remarkable sense of vision at only 24 years of age.
