Africa’s top women entrepreneurs to be rewarded

Cape Town (South Africa) – The Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF) has announced the top finalists in its annual awards to celebrate women leaders and entrepreneurs in Africa.

A total of 22 women founders and entrepreneurs have been selected as finalists, from different African countries across eight different categories.

South Africa’s Kristine Pearson of Lifeline Energy, Mali’s Oumou Sangaré of Festival International du Wassulu (Mali), Nigeria’s Joke Silva of LUFODO Group (Nigeria) are among the finalists gunning for the Lifetime Achievement Award .

There will be three finalists for the Young Entrepreneur Award, namely Tanzania’s Beatrice Haule of AfriAgric Products, Nigeria’s Lola Alli of Lagos Executive Cardiovascular Clinic (Nigeria), and another Nigerian Ola (Orekunrin) Brown of Flying Doctors.

Other finalists and categories include Caroline Corbett, SmartBlade (South Africa), Rebecca Enonchong, AppsTech (Cameroun) and Diane Temogne, Engineering Consulting and Services (Cameroun) for Tech Entrepreneur Award.

Sizani Ngubane of Rural Women’s Movement (South Africa), Efua Asibon of Dislabelled (Ghana), and Laurence Esteve of Zip Zap (South Africa) for the Social Entrepreneur Award.

Kapasa Musonda, Mangishi Doll Co. (Zambia), Genet Kebede, Paradise Fashion (Ethiopia), and Abby Ikomi, House of Irawo (Nigeria) will lock horns in the Creative Industry Award.

Shantelle Booysen of Elim Spa Products in South Africa is the only finalist in the Global Brand Award category,

Agri Entrepreneur Award : Three finalists Evelyn Namara, Vouch Digital (Uganda), Caroline Pomeyie, ProFish (Ghana), Affiong Williams, ReelFruit (Nigeria) for the Agri Entrepreneur Award, and another three for Empowerment Award, Mary Inzofu, Njia Empowerment Organisation (Kenya), Nambula Kachumi, WeCreate (Zambia), and Charlot Magayi, Mukuru Clean Stoves (Kenya).

The Awards, which take place on 29-30 October 2019 in Cape Town.

“Women-owned businesses are a vital part of our African economy and the women of Africa are our most valuable, untapped resource,” Irene Ochem, AWIEF Founder and Chief Executive Officer, said.

“Each year the entries to the AWIEF Awards grow in number and this response signifies the importance of recognising and celebrating women in Africa for their achievements and contribution to Africa’s economic and sustainable development.
